Do well though, and you'll discover that Derek has 'the touch', which means he can slow down time and perform incredible feats of healing (told you it was Japanese). But if he uses the touch too much, it drains him and puts him out of action. Each operation gets more complicated as you go and more things seem to go wrong. For example, at one point a guy's heart will randomly rip open, leaving you having to sow him up quickly. Pretty scary, huh?

The story continues with another character called Naomi, who is involved with a virus outbreak called GUILT - an infection that has several different strains. One presents itself as thorn covered membrane that latches onto the patient. Naomi also has the healing touch, but she uses it in a different way. Between operations Derek has to fight the GUILT conspiracy and join up with Naomi to save his mentor's life from the deadly parasites. (hint: an injection or two will help raise a person's heart rate and buy you some extra time)
Trauma Centre Second Opinion must be one of the strangest ideas for a game out there, but give it a chance and you'll find it actually works quite well. Some players will find the character interactions an irritation while they wait for the next surgery to take place, while at the same time others will prefer these story elements, but both are done well. Overall, an odd game that works better than you'd think.
