Wii Fit
Saving the world, one fatty at a time?

There's plenty here to keep you going, most of which are unlocked based on time spent working out rather than performance, which is handy. That said, you'll want to achieve the maximum 4 stars on each event you try.

So, when you've had a bit of a workout you'll be keen to see how fit you are at that moment, which is where things get a little complicated. When you first load the game, you get your weight and BMI measured and perform a few simple balance tests to get started. Then, on a daily basis, you're encouraged to check your new weight and BMI, as well as your Wii Fit Age.

Always the way, you go to the gym and there's also someone much fitter there!

The Wii Fit age is based solely on some questionable balance tests, therefore not only does your resulting age tend to fluctuate greatly from day to day, but also when you've been working out particularly hard, your age is inevitably worse because your balance suffers due to your aching muscles!

Because of this, you're pretty much left to rely on your weight and BMI, except for the fact that BMI is largely discredited these days, especially as a sole determiner of health and fitness (I still maintain that it was only ever invented by muscle-men as an excuse to be condescending - Ed). We all know muscle is heavier than fat so don't be surprised to see yourself struggle to get down to your target weight that Wii Fit sets.

Try it out? I think I'm happier just watching, thanks.

So long as you don't get discouraged by the BMI scores, have a sensible weight loss in mind and stick to doing 20 or so minutes 3 or 4 times a week, you'll enjoy Wii Fit and all it has to offer. You will certainly feel the difference in your overall fitness, and your well-being will increase in harmony. As a way of incentivizing your exercise or providing you with some activities you can do in a small space, Wii Fit does a great job.

Positives:
  • Lots of Exercises
  • Balance Board works well
Negatives:
  • Wii Fit Age and BMI unreliable
