Your wallet shouldn't be the only thing losing pounds...

When it comes to stretching exercises, you'll be asked to grip the resistance band in both hands (along with the remote and nunchuck) and stand on the middle of it. A variety of pulls and lifts will see you stretching the band, usually testing your back, arms and shoulders to their limits. Not every thing is an aerobic routine though, as you get some sports-based exercises, show casing tennis, basketball, baseball and volleyball.

While you might be inclined to think that you're experiencing full VR treatment in the title, the reality is that your avatar moves based upon how the remote does. You could sit down on the couch, moving it up and down occasionally and be told you're doing great, but what's the point in that? By actually getting up on your feet and doing what's asked of you, it feels like you're actually doing yourself some genuine good (even if it does also feel like you're going to die at some points).

You can work out alone, or with friends.
You can work out alone, or with friends.

There are other issues to take into account too. It's very much a living room kind of title, not the sort of thing you can play in the bedroom without worrying people that you're going to come crashing through the floorboards any second, or send your precious HDTV crashing off the shelf to the ground. It's also something you'll have to dress appropriately for too. Simply attach the leg strap to your jeans, and it'll be slipping down around your ankles before too long. Also, f you're taking things seriously, chances are you're going to be dripping wet by the end of your session, so you really want to mess up your best top. Worst case scenario, you'll have to borrow a pair of your sister's leggings and wear them for the duration of your work-out (though fellas, it should be pointed out that if you're also putting on her make-up at the same time, there may be other people you need to have a serious chat with).

One thing is for sure, though, you certainly feel like you're getting a good workout, even if the pounds aren't flying off instantly and your legs feel like they're about to give way initially. You'll still need to eat and drink responsibly, and get other forms of exercise too - as part of your daily routine in the game, you can take surveys that make enquiries with regards to your energy levels, whether you've been drinking water and eating vegetables or fast food, etc.

Put it this way, it's a lot cheaper than hiring a real personal trainer!

If you're lucky (read: wealthy) enough to own a Wii Balance Board, then you can utilise this in the title as well, but for anyone who can't justify £70+ for Wii Fit, this half-price alternative should prove equally effective and give you a nice change from sprawling out on the couch shooting bad guys all day.

Positives:
  • Choose from numerous workouts of varying length and difficulty
  • Your actions in real life are (technically) mirrored on-screen
  • Keeps you active and gets you sweating
  • Awards to earn and goals to complete keep you coming back
  • Cheaper alternative to Wii Fit
Negatives:
  • Not ideal for play above ground floor
  • Doesn't really copy your exact actions
  • You'll need to change clothes before/after play
  • It's not a magic bullet for perfect health/weight
