If there's one thing Metal Gear creator, Hideo Kojima loves, it's technological innovation. So when Metal Gear Solid made its début in the arcade you could expect it to be more than just a simple light gun shooter. A playable version of Metal Gear Arcade was unveiled at the recent AOU Expo in Japan, and to confirm the passion of Kojima, the game is not only a good looking shooter, but it also features stereoscopic 3D plus head tracking! That's a bit fancy for an arcade game, right?

Right, but it's not that we're complaining. The game booth comes with its own set of goggles, which supports the 3D glasses as well as the head tracking technology. Not only will the action jump out at you, but you can also set targets and scroll the screen with head movements. This is a big move for Metal Gear, and perhaps the sign of things to come, not only for the Metal Gear Solid saga but also for arcades.
Metal Gear Arcade is based around Metal Gear Online, which featured with Metal Gear Solid 4. The arcade version also supports local and online multiplayer. With voice chat functionality included. Expect it to hit the home consoles when 3D gaming takes off later this year (possibly).
