Insight Media, a display and 3D specialist market research company believe that 3D technology will be in place across 40 million gaming households worldwide by 2014. The report names televisions as the technology that will be implemented first, leading to an increase in 3D capable video games.
The report titled the '2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Report: A Comprehensive Analysis of S-3D Technology for Gaming' states that the market is currently in its infancy but, "is poised to grow dramatically by 2014 going from a handful of 3D-capable displays and a few thousand gamers, to an expected worldwide market of over 40 million 3D-capable displays."
Fears have been raised over the technology's effect on gamers' health however, mainly with the focus on our optics. These have been laid to rest however with news that long, drawn out multiplayer sessions will not do any damage. Dale H. Maunu, the reports lead analyst said, "We have played Stereoscopic 3D games for hundreds of hours and can report that the latest technology does not result in eye strain or fatigue. Our experience leads us to believe that S-3D gaming is more immersive and compelling than traditional gaming on a 2D screen, and it will help drive 3D adoption."
