Augmented Reality app Layar has been showing off its new capabilities after its Android 3.0 update. Included in this update are some augmented reality images that display the capabilities and the direction in which AR apps are heading.

If you happen to be at the famous zebra crossing in Abbey Road, then you can open Layar, point your camera towards it and see the Fab Four doing their famous walk. You can even snap a picture of a friend joining them. Ok, so they don't look particularly realistic, but it's a start. Other highlights include AR UFOs hovering in the skies and a bizarre Market Hall architectural project in Rotterdam.

Layar version 3.0 is currently only available for Android handsets, but the iPhone 3GS version is coming soon. Find out more at the Layar website http://layar.com/
