Mobilizy's augmented reality phone application, Wikitude, pays tribute to the World Trade Centre by including virtual 3D images of the towers in the browser.
By pointing the phone at Ground Zero, the user has the option to view a 3D image of the twin towers in real time by toggling the on-screen '3D' logo. Using GPS, the compass and the movement sensor, the exact geographical coordinates are calculated.
A Wikitude developer explains "Our application is in a way a 'Tribute in AR', just like the towers of light 'Tribute in light' that rise into the sky every year on 9/11. A prerequisite to this was the ability to use 3D, which the new version of Wikitude now has". He added "We do not aim to hurt anyone".
This is only available for the current 3D version of the browser, Version 7.8.
