It seems the Augmented Reality browser battle is heating up, as Layar and Wikitude are both set to release their products onto the developer market.
SPRXMobile, the Dutch company behind the Layar browser, is releasing an Application Programming Interface (API) to 50 companies around the world. Developers are invited to set up their own content on the Layar browser, within the designated industries.
Austrian company Mobilizy will make a similar move with their AR browser Wikitude, while also launching WIKITUDE.me, which allows users to Geo-tag their world by mapping personal points of interest.
Having covered news stories on both company's products recently, it's fair to say that both have something unique to offer. It's now a question of who can get the backing and expand on the development to make their AR more successful. There's certainly exciting times ahead for consumer AR technology, and these two companies are the front runners.
