Following on from the success of the Wii, and Microsoft's announcement of Project Natal, Sony are throwing their own cash-stuffed hat in the world of Motion control.
While there's no official name for their device yet, a prototype was shown off at the Sony E3 conference as a wand-style peripheral scanned by the Playstation Eye camera to register movements on the screen. 1:1 tracking was promised, and a variety of tech demos, showing off sports equipment and weaponry in action were shown.
Sony's Richard Marks (no, not the mullet-sporting singer from the 90s) was the man demonstrating the tech on stage, and suggested that the motion controller, whatever they end up calling it, could be with us by Spring of 2010.
