It was announced last year, and taken with a pinch if salt, but word of a Shadow of the Colossus movie has once again emerged. This time the LA Times has dropped the word in an article relating to 3D films.
In the article they interview the man behind the script, Justin Marks, who some may know as the writer of the awesome(!) file tie-in, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. He said: "I think many of the games haven't worked as movies because it's hard to find the right game. There are very few that lend themselves to movies."
"If we started thinking that anything that worked in one medium shouldn't be adapted for another we wouldn't have a lot of the great movies we've had, because so many of them came from novels." Not forgetting the amount of great games that have been inspired by movies, I should add on his behalf.
This being a 3D film article, Marks went on to say: "3-D continues to speak to the elimination of the middle creatively. If you don't have an action tentpole that can conceivably be thought of in 3-D, you may as well make small indie movies because the studios aren't going to be that interested."
Does this mean Team Ico's epic (and awesome) adventure will be coming to the big screen in 3D? It certainly has the visual material that'd suit 3D by all means, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be any good. Here's hoping Hollywood doesn't butcher it like they have other great game to lame film tie-ins.
