NVIDIA have become the latest company to announce the incorporation of 3-D into Blu-Ray discs and plan to show off their work at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las-Vegas On January 7th next year. This follows on from the news that AMD are to showcase their version of the technology at the same event and the hope is that it will be officially launched later in 2010.
The 3-D Blu-ray playback for the PC uses content encoded with AVC Multi View Codec, which is the same Codec that is expected to become the foundation for how 3-D content is encoded onto Blu-ray discs when the feature is officially implemented. The company claim that results in tests provided an experience, "that is equal to or better to what is offered in movie theatres today."
If you were to implement the entire technology, including the glasses and the actual hardware required to decode the content, it could set you back around $1000 (around £610). No news on a UK release yet but we will bring it to you as soon as we get it.
