30-01-12: It had previously been thought that the adult film industry would jump on board with the latest advances in technology and move into 3D.
However, reports have arisen, suggesting that the cost of producing content in this medium would in fact be too costly.
Julia Dimambro, CEO of Cherry Media has commented, saying that, "you're targeting early adopters who have invested in 3D TV - only a few of which will be potential adult consumers.... In addition, to get any kind of reasonable 3D effect, you really do need to shoot content specifically. Yes, there are services available where you can adapt your existing portfolio, but from what we have seen, it very rarely works well, so what's the point?"
She has another idea and feels it would be more productive to use augmented reality. This would open up far more opportunities.
"In Cherry's opinion, skip 3D and go straight to AR. It will change adult entertainment for ever and generate new revenue opportunities and consumer demand like we haven't seen for years," she added.
